My approach

Loving & considerate sleep support

There are many different parenting and baby sleep philosophies out there.

When it comes to sleep, as long as you and your baby are safe, I want you to know there are not rights or wrongs.

If you are here because you are no longer finding joy in feeding to sleep, holding your baby for every nap or perhaps you are just on the brink of exhaustion from frequent night wakings - you are not alone. Wanting better sleep is not selfish. Sleep is deeply beneficial gift you can give to your family.

I believe that giving your child the tools to enable them to have healthy, independent sleep is a skill they will carry with them into toddlerhood, childhood and throughout those precious years where sleep is vital for development and growth.

When we support, encourage & facilitate independent sleep, our children are happy, confident and secure in their own sleep space.

Giving us back our evenings with our partner, the ability to leave our children with anyone for nap time & allowing us space to refill our own emotional cup so we can consistently be the best version of ourselves for our little one.

I make safe, responsive, age appropriate suggestions that are founded on current scientific research and that you will feel comfortable with.

I don’t not use cry-it-out, however there may be some tears as you help your baby learn the skill of falling asleep independently. This is where choosing a sleep coach who you trust and who offers different sleep coaching methods based on age and temperament is important.  Feeling comfortable with the person coaching you through this transition will mean you are able to stay consistent and confidently be there for your little one every step of the way.

As a sleep coach I know that everyone feels differently about embarking on this journey should they choose to.

Some are excited, some are nervous. That is why I do tailored 1:1 support plus in-depth online courses to help you feel confident with guiding your little one through this change.

All of my online courses include a full two week plan to ensure you get all the guidance you will need to see sleep success, without putting unrealistic expectations on your little one.

"I cannot recommend Halcyon Sleep enough, Laura you are a life safer! We have gone from spending our days in the car for naps and rocking Rhys to sleep on a gym ball with numerous wakes through the night to now Rhys happily and independently falling asleep for 10-11hrs a night without a dependence on motion! I no longer dread the bed time routine or the days spent in the car, it’s now such an enjoyable experience for us and especially Rhys who goes to bed a happy boy with a smile on his face thanks to Laura’s expertise. The results speak for themselves, if your thinking of booking a consultation with Laura, do it do it do it! I wish I had done it much sooner."

FAQs

Do I have to teach my child to fall asleep independently?

Absolutely not - you don’t have to change a thing if what you’re doing right now is working for you.

But if you’re like thousands of families all over the world and you are struggling with the inevitable toll that sleep deprivation takes, you can make a change. If rocking, feeding to sleep, patting, shushing & bed-sharing have become unsustainable and are not bringing you joy anymore, you don’t have to continue to go it alone.
Healthy & restorative independent sleep, is a gift you can give your child which they will carry into toddlerhood, childhood and throughout the years where sleep is most vital for healthy growth, learning & development.

Getting great sleep not only benefits your child, but more importantly can be life-changing for you. Parenthood is utterly exhausting let alone with the added weight of months of sleep deprivation. Yet for some reason we continue to put ourselves through the angst of bedtime battles and hourly night wakings and feel guilty for wanting things to be different.

With a better night’s sleep for you and your family, you can be energised, patient and able to show up consistently & empathetically for your child when they need you most. You will feel vast improvements in your mental health, allowing you to be more emotionally available to your child, your partner and yourself.

You deserve happiness, time and energy to be the best version of yourself.

What does 1:1 support mean?

Having 1:1 support offers a different experience than working with one of my sleep guides. Working with you 1:1 allows me to provide an intimate level of support, building trust through not just listening, but truly hearing what you and your family want to achieve then creating a plan suitable.
Having a completely personalised plan for your child, will promote confidence and empower you to implement effective change. Plus sometimes in life you just need someone by your side encouraging you and reminding you that you got this!

What kind of results can I expect to see after working 1:1 with you?

I love working 1:1 with parents because it gives me a chance to educate and guide you in creating and achieving realistic sleep goals for you and your child. We will address your sleep situation and implement changes which usually result in some significant changes by the end of the first week. My aim is to have your child sleeping 10-12 hours overnight and falling asleep independently at bedtime and for naps.

How long is the waiting list for a 1:1 booking?

Because I am the sole owner and coach for Halcyon Sleep, I must work on a first come first served basis. Upon requesting a 1:1 support package you will be sent a confirmation email which will outline my nearest availability. Once you select the date you would like to begin your support, you will be sent a link where you can pay your deposit.

What if I want to take a more gradual, gentle approach to sleep coaching?

Upon request I can offer a bespoke 4 week sleep support package that is designed for those who would like to take a very gradual, gentle approach to teaching independent sleep. This bespoke package will be tailored to meet your child's specific needs and takes into consideration their birth, medical, feeding and sleeping history. Great for families who are patient, devoted to a gentle approach and feel they can commit to up to 4 weeks of consistency with their sleep coaching approach. This is also available through my Gentle & Gradual Halcyon Sleep School course.

What happens if I run into troubles after my support finishes?

Sleep is not linear. Your little one experiences so many physical changes and cognitive milestones in their first few years of life which all have an impact on how they experience the world. Sometimes these changes will impact their sleep and you may feel like everything is going backwards. This is totally normal and all part of the process! Remember, we are not creating a robot - we are dealing with a little human!

However during our 1:1 time together I will give you an in-depth understanding of setting up and maintaining great sleep foundations for you and your child. You will end your support feeling confident to deal with any challenges that may arise in the future and also with my trusty Halcyon Sleep Guide which covers everything we have discussed and more.

If you do feel like you need further 1:1 support any time in the future, you can always add this on. And if you have recommended Halcyon Sleep to a friend, you can take advantage of my 15% Off referral discount which can be used on any additional sleep support.

Will there be tears involved?

Although we are offering lots of support during this process your baby may respond to the change by communicating to you that they aren't quite sure what this new thing is that you and them are trying. Crying is not something we are completely trying to avoid when we go through this process. We want our babies to communicate with us.

They will tell us through crying that yes, something is changing and yes I'm a bit confused about it because we have always done it this other way, but I know I'm loved and I know I'm safe. With my sleep shaping & sleep coaching methods in all of my courses, you will be showing your baby that it is ok to fall asleep without rocking, feeding, cuddling, bouncing, driving or whatever other unsustainable 'ing' you have been doing day in and day out for the last few months. You are guiding them through these changes in the context of a secure relationship and loving environment.

The tears come from us changing the behaviour that isn't working for your family right now, but you are right there with them to show them that this new way is perfectly ok and empowering them with the gift of independent sleep.
